Report on National Conference, 2019
William Carey Universityorganizeda two-day national conference on “Relevance ofGandhian Philosophy of Universal Uplift (Sarvodaya) in the Contemporary World,” to commemorate the 150th Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi- which concluded on Friday with enthusiastic participation from renowned academicians from North -East.
Home Minister of Meghalaya Sri. James P. K. Sangma, inaugurated the National Conference which was then followed by a Keynote address by Dr. Prasenjit Biswas, Associate Professor, Departmentof Philosophy of North-Eastern Hill University. Inaugurating the National Conference Home minister, James P.K. Sangma said that Gandhiji served as the most influential non-religious leader, who gave inspiration for everyone in the world. Delivering the key note address on the occasion, Dr. Prasenjit Biswas stressed on the need to re-understand Gandhi’s Philosophy in today’s context. Dr. Biswas urged the participants to pursue the path of truth and to resist evil.
Prof.(Dr.)Arupjyoti Choudhury, Registrar, Krishna KantaHandiqui, State Open University, Assam also delivered an Invited Speech. In his speech, Dr.Choudhury talked on the topic of “Sarvodaya and the Mahatma”, wherein he said that ‘Welfare’ is important, in India it is seen as ‘Sarvodaya’, but in the West it is seen as ‘Utilitarianism’. He stressed that Sarvodaya has three important features: Decentralization, Balance between greed and need and the question of how to achieve ‘Sarvodaya’.
Large number of bureaucrats, academicians, media persons, scholars, studentsparticipated and made presentations in the the National Conference on various aspects of Gandhian philosophy. The valedictory function was marked by the presence of the esteemed members of the Meghalaya Private University Regulatory Board.
